Furnace Install

Furnace replacement, installed right, financed if you need it.

What we install.

Northway is a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer, so the equipment we install fresh is largely Carrier — single-stage 80% AFUE for budget replacements, two-stage 95–96% AFUE for the comfort sweet-spot most Indianapolis homes land at, and variable-speed modulating 97–98% AFUE for homeowners who want the quietest, most-controllable, lowest-bill option. We also install Bryant (Carrier's sister brand) and we'll service whatever brand you already have.

Carrier authorization means our techs train annually on the current lineup, we register your warranty on the day of install, and the unit ships with the extended manufacturer warranty (10-year parts on most models, sometimes a longer registered warranty). Authorization shapes what we recommend; it does not lock you in.

What AFUE actually means.

AFUE is Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency — basically, of the gas you burn, how much of it actually ends up heating your house. An 80% AFUE furnace turns 80 cents of every gas dollar into heat; a 96% AFUE turns 96 cents. The catch is that 90%+ units are "condensing" furnaces, which need a PVC vent through the wall (or through the existing chimney with a liner) and a condensate drain to a floor drain or condensate pump. Going from 80% to 96% in a house that's never had a condensing furnace adds a half-day of vent and drain work.

What a typical install looks like.

For a furnace-only replacement in a home already set up for the new unit, a Northway install crew is in and out in about a day. Full system replacement (furnace + AC condenser + indoor coil + line-set) is more like a day and a half — the second half-day handles the refrigerant lines, line-set flushing, evacuation, and charging.

Every install includes: permits pulled with the city, haul-away of the old equipment, manufacturer registration the same day, a post-install combustion analysis (so we know the heat exchanger is happy and the CO levels are right), and a walkthrough with you of the new thermostat and any humidifier or filter controls. We don't leave without you understanding the system.

What it costs.

These are installed prices — equipment, labor, permits, haul-away, manufacturer registration, post-install testing. They don't include ductwork modifications (rare on a like-for-like replacement) or major venting work that isn't already there.

80% AFUE single-stage
$4,800 – $6,400
95%+ AFUE two-stage
$7,200 – $9,800
Variable-speed modulating (97–98% AFUE)
$9,600 – $13,400
Add a matched AC condenser + coil
+$4,200 – $7,800

If a quote you've gotten elsewhere is dramatically lower than these ranges, ask what brand, what AFUE, who's pulling the permit, and whether haul-away is included. Sometimes the answer is fine; sometimes the difference is a 70k BTU unit being substituted for the 90k BTU your house actually needs, or a non-permitted install that voids the manufacturer warranty.

Financing and rebates.

Most homeowners don't have $7,200 in checking when the furnace gives up in February. Northway offers financing through Synchrony, Wells Fargo, and Service Finance Co. — promotional terms typically include 12-month no-interest financing on installs over $3,500 and 60-month fixed-rate options for longer terms. Soft credit pull, decision in under five minutes for most customers. See the financing page for partner details.

Rebates: Citizens Energy and IPL both run rebate programs on high-efficiency residential HVAC (typically $200–$600 on 95%+ AFUE units). The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (Section 25C) can return up to $600 on qualifying high-efficiency furnaces, and up to $2,000 on heat pumps. We file the paperwork with you at install time.

Number we quote is the number on the invoice. Permit, haul-away, registration, combustion analysis — all in.
